Love Letters는 1962년부터 1963년 사이 카렐 마르턴스(Karel Martens)가 연인 루스(Lous)에게 보낸 편지 봉투 44점을 선별해 묶은 것이다. 이 봉투들은 카렐이 군 복무 중 프레데릭 헨드릭 병영(Frederik Hendrik Barracks)의 복지부 드로잉룸에 배치되어, “군 복무에 관한 일을 함부로 떠들지 마라, 적이 듣고 있다(Don’t croak about the military service matters, the enemy is listening)”라는 제목의 포스터를 디자인하는 임무를 맡고 있던 시기에 수작업으로 인쇄된 것들이다.
